EXCLUSIVE PRIVILEGES: What Belongs To Us Because We Belong To Christ

What I share with you here is mind-boggling, but true. It is a revelation of our inheritance in Christ. The entire ministry of the Lord Jesus was to bring us into His own exclusive privileges: all He was by right, He died and rose to bring us into, by grace. Where He stood alone by merit, His finished work brought us in by redemption. He wasn’t content to be the Man in the glory, so He gave His life to bring many sons to glory (Heb.2:10)!

Here are several exclusive privileges that Jesus had which He has graciously shared with us, His brethren:

1. Sonship: Jesus was the only begotten Son of the Father. Now we too have been begotten by the Father: 1Pet.1:3; See also Jas.1:18.

2. The Beloved Son: Jesus is The Beloved Son of the Father (Matt.3:17). In Him we are equally beloved by the Father: the Father loves us as He loves Jesus Christ! 1Jn 3:1 AMP; Jn.17:23

3. Eternal Life: Jesus Christ now imparts the same eternal life He had exclusively with the Father (Jn.1:1-4), to all who trust in Him: Jn.10:27-28

4. The Indwelling: Just as Jesus was indwelt by the Father (Jn.14:8-11), so are we: “Anyone who confesses (acknowledges, owns) that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides (lives, makes His home) in him and he [abides, lives, makes his home] in God.” 1Jn.4:15 AMP

5. Access: Jesus had exclusive access to the Father: no one can come to the Father but through Christ (Jn.14:6). He has now granted us direct access to the Father in His name: Jn.16:23-24, 26-27; Heb.4:16.

6. Heirs: Jesus was the singular heir of the Father but He has now made us joint heirs. Everything that belongs to the Father was His, but He now shares His inheritance with us: “Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ…” Rom.8:17 NIV

7. The Light of the World: Jesus is the Light of the world, but He has given us His nature, which is light, and declares us to be the light of the world:  “You are the light of the world…” “Now you are light in the Lord.” Matt.5:14; Eph.5:8

8. Reconciliation: Jesus came to reconcile the world to God; now He has given us the same ministry that He Himself fulfilled: the ministry of reconciliation. As He was the Father’s Ambassador, we are now His ambassadors! 2Cor.5:18-20 NIV.

9. The Holy Spirit: As Jesus was filled with and anointed by the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:38), so has He given to us to be filled with the same Holy Spirit that filled and anointed Him. We now have the very same Holy Spirit that filled and led Christ throughout His earthly life: Rom.8:11; 1Jn.4:13 AMP

10. The Faithful Witness: Jesus is The Faithful Witness (Rev.1:5) but He has also commissioned us to be His faithful witnesses: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses..." Acts.1:8 NIV

11. Authority: Jesus has all authority in heaven and earth (Matt.28:18), but He has delegated that authority to us, His Body: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Lk.10:19

12. His Name: The Father exalted Jesus and gave Him the Name that is above every name (Phi.2:9-11), but Jesus didn’t keep His Name with all its boundless power to Himself: He gave that Name to His Church: Mk.16:17-18

13. His Glory: Jesus has given us the glory that the Father gave Him. “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them…” Jn.17:22-23

14. Resurrection: Jesus Christ is the first begotten from the dead (Rev.1:5); we also are guaranteed resurrection from the dead: 1Cor.15:20 GNB

15. His Throne: Jesus is enthroned at the right hand of the Father, but He doesn’t sit there alone: He shares His throne with His Body. For all eternity, The Head and His Body sit enthroned together! Eph.2:4-6; Rev.3:21

16. Everything: All that belongs to Christ now belongs to the believer; He holds back nothing from His Church: “Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours… whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come – all are yours. And you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.” 1Cor.3:21-23

This is astounding. Jesus shares everything with us! Everything that belongs to Christ now belongs to us because we belong to Him. Who would dare to lay claim to the exclusive privileges of Jesus Christ, if not that His grace has brought us into all that was His alone? How can we have such an inheritance and not maximize it? I encourage you to meditate on these truths until they settle in your heart like they are settled in heaven. You will walk in victory, and become a channel of God’s power and blessing to many.
